Movie Tropes I'm tired of in...
1. Woman dates loser after loser even though the perfect guy has been there all along, he's just been friend zoned. After getting her heartbroken by the last scumbag woman finally realizes (usually by chance) that her "best friend" would actually make an amazing boyfriend.
2.Falling in love via montage. Talking on the phone, strolls through the park, feeding each other, and lets not forget the "I trust you" hand holding scene, While happy and whimsical music plays. As the audience we're not exactly sure what's being said but these two are becoming quite smitten with one another.
*Madea's Family reunion (2006)
3. "Hiring" or asking someone to pose as their spouse for work and/or family event and falling for that person. The romance usually blossoms after a "forced kiss" (see number 4).The arrangement ends up becoming a real coupling with an odd "how we met" story.
*The Wedding Date(2005)
*The Proposal (2009)
4. Forced kiss makes two people realize they have feelings for each other. It could be because of a dare or to prove skeptical coworkers or family wrong, this kiss usually starts out slow yet sensual. As they pull back slowly, eyes opening, they come to the realization that they actually like each other.
* The Proposal (2009)
5. Seeking out someone to get close to them for a work related promotion or assignment. The two fall for one another and then the person finds out this was all work related. Of course all is forgiven in the end.
*How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)
*27 Dresses (2008)
6. Lying about your identity but getting the girl/guy anyway. The lying is most likely accidental. Run into an affluent man at a Gala and he thinks you're in the same tax bracket. Problem is you're a waitress at the event! Instead of coming clean from the very beginning you play along. That's OK they'll still love you even after all the lies you have to tell to keep up appearances.
*Maid in Manhattan (2002)
7. A fling or no strings attached relationship turns into something serious. It's actually, the amazing friendship and sex! They both like it but one person freaks out because it can never be that easy. Oh but it is.
*No strings Attached (2011)
*Friends with Benefits (2011)
8. Love triangle. Need I say more?
*Twilight (2008)
9. Having a GREAT partner but dumping them for first love who suddenly reappears. Doesn't matter how fantastic this current person is (actually they're usually due to be married) if you're not their first love, you're screwed and usually jilted.
*The Notebook (2004)
* Sweet Home Alabama (2002)
10. The player gets played. Treats women as if they are disposable. Falls hard for someone who does the same thing to him. They end up together anyway.
*John Tucker must die (2006)
Movies that give this genre the middle finger.
The Breakup (2006)
500 Days of Summer (2009)
Something Borrowed (2011)
Vicky, Christina, Barcelona (2008)
HA! Love #3 and #6 so true! The examples are spot on. Thanks for this!
