((SPOILERS))To describe Suicide Squad in one word it would be disappointment.๐ญ I use that word because that was the feeling I had in theaters while watching it. It seems as if Suicide Squad was DC's answer to Marvels' Avengers(2014). Choosing to go the route of Anti-heroes with a rag tag crew of criminals and meta-humans looked really fun. Suicide Squad was really fun, but the film lacked in other areas. Unfortunately for DC, this wasn't a strong enough answer to truly challenge Marvel but it wasn't for lack of trying. Where the Heroes from the Avengers mostly had their own feature length movies to give plenty of in-depth back story, Suicide Squad struggled to make us care about ELEVEN characters in just 113 minutes.
It's obvious that Deadshot (Smith) and Harley Quinn (Robbie) are the front runners. It gets no better than Big Will as Deadshot. The opening sequence belongs to him. His four minute introduction, shows a shirtless and (very buff๐ณ) Deadshot with a full beard and bald head. Will Smith looks incredible and is funny as hell. Robbie also gets a four minute intro before the Movie title sequence. She, like Smith, is sexy and funny and plays the role quite well. Her accent was very prevalent in some scenes an nonexistent in others, not sure if it was intentional or not. I enjoy these two but their screen time, lines and development feels very unbalanced with the rest of the cast.
Government Agent Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis is that bitch. Davis owns this role as Waller. She brings her binder labeled TOP SECRET to a private dinner with the Nations security personel. Again Deadshot and Harley Quinn are given four minute back stories. Deadshots' features Batman who confronts him saying;
"Deadshot I don't want to do this in front of your daughter."
Then Batman proceeds to have him arrested in front of his daughter. OK.
Quinns' back story gives a first glimpse of Jared Letos' Joker. Personally I'm a fan of his interpretation. He was funny, and menacing. His wardrobe was so sharp, he's the best dressed and most swagged "Mr. J" I've seen. My biggest complaint was I wanted more of him. Unfortunately more of Leto was left on the cutting room floor, the Joker graced the movie for just shy of twelve minutes. Waller then zips right through the other guys, ya know, the fillers.
El Diablo๐ฅ, the human torch "The security video is incredible." (30 seconds)
Captain Boomerang (30 seconds) I definitely wanted more of him.
Killer Croc;
"He looked like a monster, they treated him like a monster, he became a monster."
Talk about vague. Apparently Batman captured three of these villains and put them away which poses the question , where is Batman? Oh he's probably in Gotham accidentally killing civilians.๐ต

Waller skips over another totally expendable member, his picture is shown and it's quite blatant Suicide Squad doesn't give a damn about him.
Waller considers The Witch to be the most impressive of the bunch. The Witch is actually Archaeologist Doctor June Moon. While exploring Ancient ruins the doctor finds a precious artifact. And like no Historian EVER would she purposely BREAKS it open! I'm not talking about an accident either. She didn't drop it or anything like that. She roughly snaps the head off a an ancient object.๐ฎ
Releasing an evil and possessing Moon, she can turn into The Witch while chanting;
"Enchantress".
Amanda boasts that she can control her because she has the witches physical heart. She carries it around (everywhere) in a box and savagely stabs it when the witch is being naughty. She also enlisted her top Special Forces guy Rick Flag to "look after her" somehow knowing these two, single attractive people would fall in love Now Waller controls them both.
When it comes to the task that squad is given the entire movie falls apart and makes no sense. After Enchantress sneaks into Wallers office and finds her Bruthaaaa's (as she affectionately calls him.) soul, she kidnaps a man and makes him the vessel for her sibling. She then goes back to Flag who was worried sick. Enchantress's brother then starts killing people in the subway in order to become more powerful. This garners attention from the Pentagon who initially weren't fans of Waller's pitch. They decide to tell Waller that her and her team are now LIVE. We will come back to this in a while...
Deadshot, Harley and the gang all meet each other and are prepped for their very unclear mission. By this time the city has been evacuated and The Witch and her brother are stronger. The Witch, disgusted with how we worship machines, plans to make a big one to kill us all? Ambiguous details are given so this is just a guess. The crew doesn't know any of this though. All they know is that their mission is dangerous and that if they fail, they die. They're motivation is getting time off their prison sentence. They are told by Waller (via video chat) to rescue HVT1,
"....the only person in the city who cannot die."
As their dangerous mission is explained Deadshot has an Epiphany.
"So that's it? What are we.....some kind of Suicide Squad?"
Will Smith does not look happy to be saying that line. Their journey starts off with adding yet another member, Kittana, a bad ass woman with a sword. We get a cool but brief scene, seeing her origins. It's honestly not enough, she's easily the coolest in the bunch. They all survive a pretty jarring and (should have been fatal) helicopter crash to start things off. Safely on the ground (with no injuries from anyone.) Slipknot, the throw away character whose back story consisted of
"The man who can climb anything."
attempts to flee and is immediately terminated. From his intro to his death he spends one minute and five seconds on screen. They just wanted to show us how easy it is to kill the squad if they escape because they have bombs that will go off in their necks. This is hooked up to an app on Flags touch screen mobile device. Convenient, yes . However if you've ever accidentally called someone on Facebook messenger and scurried to hang up before they answer you know this sounds like an accident waiting to happen. The squad trudges on, learning about one another and fighting Enchantresses weird, gooey, henchmen. The connection is't made yet but everything leads back to Amanda Waller. Amanda Waller, who forced Dr. Moon to change into Enchantress so frequently that June was unable control her counterpart further. Enchantress, who found her brothers soul (?) in Wallers' office and puts it soul into someone else. Thanks Ms. Waller. Not to mention the entire point of this crazy "mission" is to rescue HVT1 who turns out to be Waller. This is what I don't really understand though. The Pentagon told Waller to get her team into gear and get ready to fight when they got wind of the non-human entity in the subway (Enchantress Bruthaa) but by the time everyone is ready to go Amanda tells them their objective is to rescue HVT1. I was under the impression that the team was supposed to stop the non-human entity. How did their mission turn into saving Waller? They spend thirty minutes fighting Enchantresses weird, bubbly slackers to save Waller from them and if you back track, she's the one partially responsible for them in the first place! When Flag and the crew "rescue" her he wonders why she was even in this building needing to be saved and she claims she was studying Enchantress. Amanda can't hide her admiration for Enchantresses goons.
"She takes a yoga mom and an elderly retiree and turns them into a soldier that can take a head shot and still fight! That's one hell of an army."
Actually that's one hell of a lie . The soldiers that the witch created were actual people that she transformed. Now they're strong and fast for sure but immortal, they are not. At first it's established that they need to be shot in the head (apparently "without their heads they're powerless").Then we see Harley Quinn kill them easily with a bat. So...yea, not that great of an army. I also want to mention Enchantress is one of the most uninspired villains, ever. She speaks in a very enunciated tone and gyrates her body back and forth. She doesn't actually kill ANYONE, she enlists her sibling to do that while she works on her machine swirling in the sky. The actual Villain should be Waller, not that it's not obvious. Before going to the roof to catch a helicopter, Waller randomly kills her crew of people claiming;
"they weren't cleared for any of this." ๐ฆ
What exactly weren't they cleared for? Why were they even here with you working in the first place? Do you plan on killing people every time the Suicide Squad has to save your ass? Deadshot says
"And I'm the criminal?"
Yea we get it. Waller is just as bad. Further proof that the squad's ONLY objective was to rescue Waller, Flag looks at the crew and says;
"Let's go home."
OK so someone else is gonna handle the lady and her brother turning people into burny blobs and making machines in the sky?
Waiting for their helicopters' on the roof , the Joker briefly gets Harley Quinn back. He does so prompting the second helicopter crash of the movie that people survive. When Waller gets on her chopper , just minutes later, the third Helicopter crash happens. The mission is now back on to save Waller (again) and this time Enchantress has her. She finally has her heart back and is stronger than ever, this prompts an outfit and hair change.
After hearing about the second part of their mission the crew temporarily quits.
El Diablo๐ฅ reveals he killed his family because of his anger getting the best of him. It gives him some humanity, it's an attempt at building up his character, I'll take it. Killer Croc says one of his few Killer Croc-isms
"Not me shorty, I'm beautiful." ๐ฏ๐
Since he's part croc, part black stereotype (he later requests BET in his cell room,) I guess he doesn't deserve any type of back story. Flag tells the crew he really needs them and then tells Deadshot his daughter writes him everyday and he has her letters. Good way to build his trust. It pisses off Deadshot but for some reason he agrees to go back. The rest follow. The climax is so anti climatic. The squad goes to Enchantress and her bruthaaaaa. El Diablo๐ฅ sacrifices himself for his "new family" and destroys her bruthaaaa. Enchantress is still alive and her generalized machine is still swirling in the sky. The witch attempts to fight everyone, combat style but doesn't get far. She then asks them to join her. I guess no hard feelings about killing her bruthaaa? Harley Quinn tricks her because
"you messed with my friends!"
She easily extracts the witches heart out. Flag proclaims that they can kill her now but they don't. They destroy her machine. It happens in slow mo. Killer Crocs, croc nipples on display as he throws a bomb into her swirling machine, Harley throws Deadshot her gun and he uses it to detonate the bomb.See there? Team work makes the dream work! Still alive, Enchantress is groveling , wheezing yet unbothered when Flag demands she turn back into Dr. Moon. When he threatens to kill her she proclaims
"You don't have the balls."
Doesn't sound like something an ancient Deity would say, even in modern times. Flag squeezes her heart, killing her. Funny how squeezing the heart kills her but savagely stabbing it via Amanda Waller does nothing. Flag, heartbroken, doesn't even check for a pulse and walks away. Then Dr. Moon wakes up
"I thought I killed you" he says hugging her.
"I thought I killed you." she responds๐๐๐๐๐.
So basically it all wraps up with our anti-heroes going back to jail with some added comforts and less prison time. Amanda Waller is still alive and meets with Batman in the post credits scene. My boy, where the hell were you this entire time? Actually I know where you've been. And I Can't wait to talk about that too.

Interesting. I'll admit I never really looked at the movie from this point of view.
