*Horraween 2017* The Pack

-The Pack-
2015
It's hard to think of a movie that's scary and has dogs as the antagonist. This film is no exception. Cujo might be the only one thats actually a good film. The film had one dog and was mostly filmed in a car. This one has several wild dogs and takes place on a farm house. The simple premise worked out a lot better. Maybe because Cujo is actually thrilling and somewhat realistic, this shit? Is not. And although this film isn't realistic it's uninspired as hell. Talk about a vanilla horror film. The Pack is boring and is extremely predictable. The first thing that happens is a man enters a dark, abandoned shed and is savagely torn apart by wild dogs. Next the mans wife(?) enters the same shed and suffers the same fate. Then the words THE PACK come up. You know your movie sucks when two random people that have no connection to the actual plot die before the film starts.
We meet the Wilson family. There is young Henry, older sister who hates living in the middle of nowhere, feisty mom and stubborn dad. The Wilson's live on a huge property in a farmhouse and raise livestock. They are miles away from the closest neighbor. A bad man from the bank comes and tells Mr. and Mrs. Wilson that the bank is going to put their house into foreclosure. Their only option is to accept the banks offer of two hundred thousand or get ready to get dragged through the court system and lose everything. Stubborn Mr. Wilson refuses to sell and pleads with the bank guy. Their livestock has been dwindling the past six months because something is eating their animals. No animals means no income. Surely the bank will understand. There must be some sort of clause if you're business fails due to loss of livestock. There isnt and the back doesn't give a hoot. If I may interject here....why hasn't something been done to investigate what's eating their precious animals? Why not contact animal control? Why not set up cameras? Or even go hunting. It's as if the Wilsons' are just like "damn something has been eating our animals for six whole months...oh well".
The  bad man from the bank leaves and stops his car to take a leak in the woods. He is immediately and savagely torn to bits by the wild pack of dogs. LOL
The pack of dogs choose this same evening to finally attack the Wilson's. The dad knows there is a wild animal outside and pulls out his rifle. When his wife asks what is going on he tells her to go into the room with the children. She frightens the children, also without an explanation of whats going on. As something thumps the door the wife asks again "who is that" and calls 911 when they hear glass breaking. Dad digs through the hall closet and then asks "where are the rest of the bullets?" sigh. It wouldn't make sense to have them in the same location as the weapon, right? Something hits the door again and the dad shoots through it. No one freaks out over gunshots being fired, not even the kids. The dad checks if he killed his target. Instead of opening the door, just a crack he opens it all the way up and steps outside. A trail of blood says the wounded animal is gone. As dad turns to go back inside a wild dog hops on his back and takes him down. Mom and dad wrestle the dog and kick it out, but not before it takes a nice bite out of daddy Wilsons arm. He deserved it for his stupidity. The mother warns the children that there are wild bloodthirsty dogs outside. "Predators hunt in packs." Not always true, but it is in this case. The rest of the film continues without logic.
Sometime later one cop arrives. Instead of checking in with the family by knocking on their door he decides to walk around the property with his flashlight. As he does this the family scream from behind their door. The cop can't hear them , for whatever reason and he too, is savagely torn to bits by the animals.
No one thinks to call the police again, maybe they'll send more help when they learn an officer is down. The dad decides to run to his pickup truck and then back it up to their porch so the family can hop in. Dad ends up crashing into the cops vehicle and one of the dogs jumps into dads car and he is attacked by the animals. He makes a run to the shed looking for the bullets before he safely passes out. Mom goes off with her walkie talkie trying to find out where her husband is, leaving her children defenseless as the animals find their way into the house. There should be some suspense but I'm sure that neither the kids or their parents will be killed.
When dad wakes back up he instructs his wife to get the children on the roof and says another patrol car should be coming soon. Henry, the resourceful one, is able to confuse the dogs with a piss bottle.  Dad finally offs the beasts by putting his rifle to work and by the end of the night the wild pack is dead and/or gone. The Pack may be the tamest Horror film I've ever seen. No tension built up at all and the family wasn't very likable or realistic. I'm willing to suspend belief for a frightening flick. I'm not willing to be freaked out by a movie about dogs that essentially do nothing. In a cast of eight people, one would think that killing four of them would be plenty. In this case they are all anonymous people to give the dogs something to eat. As the movie comes to a close everything is set right in the Wilson household. Somehow they were able to keep their house and mom and dad make out in front of the porch. The spoiled daughter looks #grateful. Henry loves his home and his family. Then the movie cuts to glowing eyes in the forest. WOOF!
