A Quiet Place

I can't remember the last monster flick I've seen and that's not okay America. I think creature features have been lacking from cinema lately and I was intrigued the moment I saw the trailer for A Quiet Place. The film looked genuinely scary and mysterious.  I was extremely hopeful that the movie would be not only well made and well acted, but have a truly creepy monster/s to fear. When the first reviews started rolling in and they were positive I was hype. Since seeing the film myself, I am happy to report that A Quiet Place is quite good.
We drop in on this family of five, just months after  what I'm guessing is an invasion. How did these things get to our planet and take over, we aren't given any information to that, and that may bother some viewers. I didn't mind this nor did I see any problem with where this saga starts. I enjoyed seeing this clan, and the adjustments they have made for survival.
The two lead actors Emily Blunt and John Krasinski deliver inspired performances. This film is Krasinski's directorial debut and it's an impressive one. The atmosphere is very tense and thrilling. AQP  grabs you from the first scene and commands your attention. With not much dialogue said throughout the entire film the family interacted via sign language which I loved to see. I also appreciate how terrifying the monsters really are.
I will admit I have a few gripes with the film. As a parent, I had a problem believing that parents would allow their children to do certain things during an alien invasion. There is one major issue I have that involves a tank of oxygen that is completely ridiculous.
I can also see audiences not liking some of the family members, one in particular.
The ending left a bit to be desired as well, with some thinking the door is left open for a sequel. At the same time people want a prequel too. I hope that neither happen. Let this film stand on it's own. Lets support A Quiet Place and bring back more solid Horror flicks. I believe that despite its flaws A Quiet Place is a great start.
